School Philosophy

Principal’s Message
Winfield Elementary School is a new
school that opened in 2007-08 with more than 70% of our students having a
first language other than English. We presently can serve approximately
550 students; the facilities are expandable to handle 800 students. We are
proud to represent the Winton School District as the Windjammers.
We believe every child can learn more
about themselves and the world around them in order to be prepared to make
a contribution to society. Not only do we serve a diverse population, we
also have a majority of families that are at or below poverty level. We
believe children coming from poverty are as valuable and capable of
learning as students who live in a higher socioeconomic neighborhood. It
is our purpose to help each child develop socially, emotionally,
spiritually, psychologically, and academically. We look forward to
continue our partnering with the community to accomplish the best for each
and every child.

School Facilities
Winfield Elementary was built in 2007. It
has 31 classrooms, a library, a computer lab, an administration building, a
cafeteria, and a county Special Education building that has three
classrooms and office space. The outside grounds within the campus include
approximately eight acres of grass playground and three acres of asphalt
playground. The campus is beautiful and is cleaned daily by two eight-hour
custodians who's shifts are from 2:30 pm to 10:30 pm Monday
through Friday. Students can only enter through a gate at the front of the
school where a yard supervisor is stationed. The front gate is locked during school hours,
allowing visitors to enter only through the office. After school, the
students are dismissed through the front gate with a teacher stationed at
the gate and then the gate is locked when the students are gone.
Otherwise, the campus is either gated or has chain link fencing around its
perimeter.
