THE COMMUNITY OF WINTON

    Winton, California is a rural community with a population of about 10,000.  We are located at approximately the geographic center of California in the heart of our state's central valley.  Winton is a short drive from many famous California landmarks; Sacramento is 90 miles to the north, San Francisco is 100 miles to the Northwest, and Yosemite National Park is 70 miles to the East.  Winton is part of Merced County, with the city of Merced about 7 miles south of WMS.

    Our area is predominantly agricultural and our farmers grow almost everything.  Winton was effected by the closing of Castle Air Force Base about 10 years ago, but we continue to be "A small town that is big on education."  Our middle school graduates attend Atwater High School just a few miles down the road.
